No bounds

Over at the Ivory-bill Skeptic, a commenter stated that I no longer allow comments on my blog. I submitted a comment correcting this straightforward error in fact, stating simply that I only disallow unsigned anonymous comments. I pointed out that anyone can comment here so long as they sign a name, and that unlike some other blogs I reject very few signed comments regardless of their content. And, of course...

Nelson rejected my comment.

The hypocrisy and deceitfullness of this man who postures himself as a defender of truth, open discussion, and the scientific way is utterly astounding. Why does the community still grant him any status, credibility, or respect? He jumped the track of honest discussion many months ago in favor of talk-radio style propagandizing and carefully calculated misstatements and disinformation.

P.S. Not surprisingly, the only Nelson backers who have commented on this post have done so... anonymously. And for historical interest, this is the reason I'm no longer allowed to comment over there. This is also the post whose comment section got me threatened with legal action by the now-deceased Noel Wamer, a.k.a. "Olivacea," for something that I myself didn't even write. Ah, the good old days...

Bill,

Accurate as usual. Unfortunately the internet, as wonderful as it is, is a hideout and platform for the mean and cowardly. They can snipe from anonymity but would never have the fortitude to say this carp face to face.

The most amazing thing about Nelson to me is that he somehow seems to really believe that he resides on a higher plane of ethical and intellectual purity, while all we unwashed rabble torment and slander his immaculate soul mercilessly, unjustifiably, and with no provocation whatsoever. How he can be slinging compost with both hands while simultaneously claiming innocent victimization is truly surreal.

One thing I can say for him, he is perfectly suited for a high-level post in the Bush administration.

Don't you realize that Nelson has taken an incredible beating? He is done for! Anybody who ever meets him now just needs to do a google search and see what people think about him. His and his anonymous sock-puppets' lashings-out are just a sign of how paranoid he is and a symptom of how badly cornered he feels.

Sites have formed just to f&*k with him, i.e. the Ivory-billed Septic. He's paid a severe price for his perfidy and anything that he or "Invisible Birder" or "anonymous" posts is sheer defensiveness because he is on the run and beaten down and he knows it.

The biggest mistake all of you are committing is making him out to be bigger or worse than he really is. You're feeding the beast when you do that when you really should just be letting him wither and fade away.

He has zero clout with ornithologists and with birders. He's almost completely contained now. He's in a box. Let him and his followers rant.
