Ding, dong...

The witch is dead!

OK, she's just slapped around, and will be really pissed off once the shock wears off. But the evil Rumsfeld-Bush-Petroleum Junta has at least been given a setback in its plans for world domination.

Now about Virginia... the media seem to be especially timid, as though they are terrified to actually proclaim that the Democrats will now control the House AND the Senate. But look at that VA senate race. 8,000 votes or so separating the candidates, and only about 1000 uncounted ballots noted in the county tallies. Sure, recount, absentee, provisionals, etc. But these generally don't affect the size of the vote differential by as much as 8,000. Come on, CNN, NPR, all the rest of you, admit it! The new Senate will break out 51D vs 49R, and you know it!

Really great! Another result that warmed my heart is that Richard Pombo (R-CA) lost. This is the guy that made his mission in Congress to try to destroy the Endangered Species Act.

November 7, 2006 was a very good day for democracy. Now those of us who worked and hoped for this day just have to try to ensure that our "new majority" doesn't blow it. The last thing we need is another political party drunk with power and convinced of its own infallibility.

And yes, Dalcio, the Pombo defeat was especially sweet!

When I was growing up I didn't even know it was possible to have anyone but the Democrats in control of congress. All those decades where chaotic, rancorous, and as corrupt as ever, but they got us the clean air act, clean water act, endangered species act, voting rights act, civil rights act, much of the foundation of the explosions in freedom, equality, and environmental quality and safety that are taken for granted now. There were some debacles too, to be sure, but the America we enjoy now was largely shaped in these decades. What do we have to show for the last decade? Corporate control of our government, legal system, and culture; the Patriot Act; and the entire world fearing and hating us.

With the democrats, the country is taking the interstate highway to collectivist hell.

With the republicans, the country is taking a country road to the same ending.

Both parties suck.

Politics is mainly just entertainment to me now.

Haven't voted in a long time, nor do I plan to start up again.

Democracy can't work, the voters by and large are too damn stupid to know what is going on. A nation of fry cooks is what we have.

Hillary cometh in '08, not that I
give a rat's ass one way or the other. Should be entertaining though.
